The Central Virginia chapter of the AIA is seeking resumes for a new part-time chapter coordinator. The Board regrets to announce that Elizabeth Rhodes will be stepping down in mid-March. She has been an integral part of our chapter for many years – expertly managing chapter affairs, providing creative input and planning for events, and being the glue holding the chapter together.

We are seeking an energetic person for 10+ hours a month (more for special event planning such as Architecture Week and Design Awards). Please see the attached document for job description and necessary skills. In order to maximize training time, we request that resumes and letters of interest be emailed to the chapter no later than Wednesday, February 1st by end of day.

JRGBC-CV January 2012 Luncheon: LED Lighting & Controls For LEED
Are you up on the latest lighting technologies and how they contribute to LEED? If not, then start off the new year with JRGBC and Carter Adams, Principal of Lighting Virginia to learn how new LED fixtures and controls can be incorporated into your projects to save energy and earn LEED points. Carter has been in business thirty years and represents over 80 lighting manufacturers. He will discuss practical examples of parking deck, site, interior decorative and downlighting as well as emergency lighting and will have fixtures on hand to demonstrate.

This luncheon will be held on January 10th at City Space, 100 5th St. NE, on the Downtown Mall, Charlottesville, VA. Doors open at 11:50 and the Seminar begins at approximately 12:10 pm.

Luncheons are free and open to the public; however, advance registration is required by Friday, January 6th. Lunches are ordered based on pre-registration, so please RSVP by the deadline and cancel your registration if you can’t attend before the deadline.

2012/ 2013 AIA Central Virginia Board of Directors ~ Call for Nominations

This notice, also sent to all current AIA Central Virginia members via e-mail, serves as the Call for Nominations for members interested in serving on the Chapter’s 2012/2013 AIA Central Virginia Board.

The annual Chapter Election Meeting will be held Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 at The City Space 100 5th Street NE on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.

To add your name as a nominee for the 2012/2013 Chapter Board, please submit the following by Monday November 7th, 2011. Nominations may also be taken by on the floor.

1. Your intent to run, and the position you would like to run for in writing (e-mail is acceptable) to Elizabeth Rhodes, Elizabeth@aiacentralva.org
2. A statement expressing your goals and/or objectives for serving on the board.
3. A photograph and A brief biography (100 words or less) with information on your background, education and professional history for newsletter if elected

Please note: You must be a member in good standing of the AIA Central Virginia Chapter to run for and hold a Board position.

VOTING

Only members in good standing may vote. Voting will take place by quorum at the Annual Meeting on November 15th at 6:30 pm.

Positions:

Vice President/President Elect – Open Seat

The Vice President/President­elect. The First Vice President/President­elect shall possess all the powers and perform all the duties of the President in the event of the absence of the President or of the President’s disability, refusal, or failure to act and shall perform such other duties as are properly assigned by theBoard of Directors or the President.

Succession. The First Vice President/President­elect shall succeed to the office of President upon expiration of the term of office of the President.

The President shall exercise general supervision over the affairs of this Chapter, exept those matters placed by these bylaws or by the Board of Directors under the administration and supervision of the Secretary and/or the Treasurer; preside at meetings of this Chapter and of the Board of Directors; appoint, with the concurrence of the Board of Directors, all committees; sign all contracts and agreement to which this Chapter is a party; have charge of and exercise general supervision over the offices and employees of this Chapter, andshall perform all other duties usual and incidental to the office.

Authority. The President shall act as spokesperson of this Chapter and as its representative at meetings with other organizations and committees unless otherwise delegated by theBoard of Director. The President shall not obligate or commit this Chapter unless the obligation or commitment has been specifically authorized by the Board of Directors.

Associate Liaison – Open Seat

AIA Associate Member in Good Standing. Provides a forum for associates to cross-communicate with practicing architects and to train and transition effectively into the profession. Assists in preparation for the Licensing Exams. Keeps Licensing Exam Material up to date, and monitors lending/ loaning materials to chapter members. Must attend all board meetings and chair programs for emerging professionals.

2 year term

VSAIA Director

Representation on the Society Board of Directors. A member in good standing of this Chapter shall serve as a liaison between the AIA CV board and the Virginia Society AIA. The Director will attend all AIA CV chapter meetings, and participate in planning of chapter events. On the VSAIA Board level, the Director attends and prepares for monthly meetings and some events Virginia Society Board as a representative of the Central Virginia chapter. The director is required to support (financial contribution) several VSAIA sponsored events. The VSAIA Board members (Directors + Executive committee), participate and assume responsibilities on one of the following committees: Communications and Outreach (publications and website), Professional Excellence (includes programs like Arch Ex, ELA, Design Forum) or Government Advocacy.For more information VSAIA Director duties, please contact Kim Smith, smith{at}vmdo.com, current Incumbent VSAIA Director.
Election results will be announced at the conclusion of the Election Meeting and will be provided to the membership via e-mail and on the Chapter website on Friday, November 18, 2011.
